This is one of the busiest areas in our clinic - our lab.  All too often time IS an issue when dealing with a sick pet.  Time we can save by doing  bloodwork here rather than sending it to an outside lab can be time spent treating the illness instead of guessing about the problem.  Our lab provides rapid results for rapid identification and treatment of existing problems, and can give a clue prior to surgery if there is reason for concern which could delay the surgery until a safer time for your pet.

Pictured to the Right (from left to right) are
the QBC Autoreader, printer, VetTest, and Vetlyte.  These instruments are used for bloodwork. The QBC checks complete blood counts (which is used to determine anemia, infection, clotting disorders, etc).  The VetTest is used for checking levels of different "substances" produced by and found in the body which can help determine improper organ function. This machine can also check thyroid function, cortisol levels, and glucose levels.  The VetLyte is used for making sure electrolyte levels are where they are supposed to be.  This is helpful in determining things like cardiac problems and dehydration.

But our lab is not just for bloodwork.  We also get a ton of use out of our microscope.  You'd be amazed at the little critters we sometimes find lurking on the skin of an animal or in their stool.  The good thing about our microscope is we can SHOW YOU!  That monitor shows what we are looking at so there is no question as to what we are seeing...and it's easier on the eyes!

The microscope isn't just used to find "cooties" either.  It is helpful in diagnosing urinary infections, ear infections, doing manual blood cell counts, confirming fertility,  checking for "suspicous" cells on a growth, etc.
