Annual urine evaluation now includes a check for protein loss in the urine for pets 7 and over in age. Protein loss is an accurate early indicator of kidney damage. Initially we check an "ERD" and later in life we switch to a protein creatinine ratio. These changes can show years earlier than changes in the blood.
